How It Works

From Pneumatic to Flat-Proof — In Four Steps

Poly-Fil® is pumped into pneumatic tires by certified technicians, fully replacing the air. It cures into a flexible, shock-absorbing elastomer core — eliminating flats while preserving tire flex.

1

Inspect

Tires and wheels are checked for defects before processing.

2

Pre-Stretch

Tire carcass is pre-stretched overnight for proper fit and performance.

3

Pump & Pressurize

Poly-Fil® is pumped through the valve stem, fully replacing the air to recommended pressure.

4

Cure

The fill cures at proper time and temperature into a resilient elastomer core.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about tire flat-proofing with Poly-Fil®.

What is tire flat-proofing?

Tire flat-proofing is the process of replacing the air inside a pneumatic tire with a two-component polyurethane fill. The polyurethane cures into a flexible, shock-absorbing elastomer core that retains the tire's natural flex while eliminating punctures, blowouts, and the need for ongoing inflation maintenance.

Which Poly-Fil® formulation should I use?

It depends on your equipment, load, and operating speed. Poly-Fil® 30 covers the majority of applications. Use Poly-Fil® LP for flotation tires requiring a soft ride, Poly-Fil® HP for stratocranes and zero-deflection needs, Poly-Fil® 22 for slightly firmer general use, and Poly-Fil® Aqua for aerial work platforms operating under 5 MPH. Our specialists can help you select the right product for your application.

How long does the flat-proofing process take?

The process involves overnight pre-stretching of the tire, followed by pumping, pressurizing, and curing at the proper time and temperature. Total turnaround typically runs 24–48 hours depending on tire size and formulation. Once cured, the tire is ready for service and lasts the full tread life without maintenance.

Can flat-proofed tires be retreaded?

Yes — properly flat-proofed tires using Poly-Fil® can be retreaded by qualified retreaders. The polyurethane core remains intact through the retread process, extending the total service life of the tire and providing better return on investment.

Is Poly-Fil® environmentally responsible?

Yes. Poly-Fil® offers a recycled-fill process that reuses post-consumer polyurethane, reducing landfill waste. Poly-Fil® Aqua features a water-based catalyst that lowers petrochemical use and carbon footprint. All Poly-Fil® products are manufactured in our Santa Fe Springs, California facility.

What's the maximum operating speed for flat-proofed tires?

This depends on the formulation. Poly-Fil® 30 can run up to 55 MPH for 4-hour periods and is rated for all-day operation at 35 MPH. Poly-Fil® HP and Poly-Fil® Aqua are designed for slower-moving equipment. Match the formulation to your equipment's typical operating profile for best results.

Do I need certified technicians to install Poly-Fil®?

Yes. Flat-proofing is a precision process that should only be performed by Poly-Fil® certified technicians using proper processing equipment. We provide dealer and technician training with ongoing certification to ensure consistent, safe installations across our dealer network.
